Usage and Application
Application/Use
  • The untreated wooden substrate has to be clean, dry and free of dust and grease.
  • Processing temperature (including drying) above + 8°C. Wood humidity < 18%. Air humidity < 60%.
  • Final hardness is reached after 10 days. Handle with care during this period. Drying takes at least 8-12 hours (depending on weather). Avoid exposure to moisture during this time. Drying happens by oxidation accompanied by a characteristic odor, so ventilate well during drying.
  • Treat softwood (risk of fungi) in exteriors with an appropriate impregnation primer before applying the first coat.
  • Neutralize woods with high amounts of oil or wood components (ipe, afzelia, etc.) prior to treatment using an appropriate detergent.
  • Later on, always paint over Douglas Fir Terrace Oil using the same product.
  • Stir contents well before and during use.
  • Works differently depending on surface characteristics. Apply a trial coat first.
  • Adhere to rules of constructive wood preservation.
  • If possible, apply once on all sides before assembly.
  • Apply oil thinly and evenly - avoid layer formation and collect excess oil.

Always apply two coats of Douglas Fir Terrace Oil to raw, untreated wood by brush or spray nozzle (apply to end grain until it stops absorbing). Can be painted over when partially dry (after approximately 3-6 hours. Douglas Fir Deck Oil appears milky but is "natural brown" when dry. Do not let more than 24 hours pass in between first and second coat. Check coat regularly and renew as needed.
