PNZ Graying Oil

Esthetic graying and all-round protection and care for your wood. Sustainably produced with regional raw materials.

Suitable for

Wooden surfaces in exteriors (wooden decks, wooden terraces, facade cladding, windows, doors, garden houses, timber framing, playsets, etc.). Graying Oil provides a decorative look for wooden surfaces. Our product creates a silver-gray weathering-like effect, just like on untreated wood. Our pigmented Graying Oil offers great protection against extreme climatic influences due to the deep impregnation of its non-film forming surface. It produces a durable, water-repellent and weather- and UV-resistant surface. Graying Oil is free of toxic agents, odorless when dry and inoffensive in terms of building biology. Reduces swelling as well as cracking. Graying Oil is impervious to most household chemicals such as beer, wine, juice and water. It is open-pore, permeable to vapor and balances out the natural, weather-based graying of untreated wood in exteriors. It is also suitable for post-treatment of weathered wood surfaces.

Approximately 60-70 ml/m², meaning 1 liter of Graying Oil is enough for approximately 15 m² per application, depending on the kind of wood and surface (planed or rough-sawn). Corrugated wood can increase consumption (factor 2-3). Lower consumption affects durability of the coat.

Storage

Cool, but frost free.

Cleaning

Clean tools with thinner or turpentine substitute immediately after use.

Contents

Refined natural oils such as soybean and sunflower oil, isoaliphate, natural waxes, lead-free drying agents, pentanonoxime, iron oxide pigments and titanium dioxide.

Usage and Application
Application/Use
  • Surface has to be clean, dry and free of frost and dust.
  • Processing temperature (including drying) above + 8°C. Wood humidity < 18%. Air humidity < 60%.
  • Can be painted over after approximately 8 hours. Final hardness is reached after 10 days.
  • Works differently depending on surface characteristics. Apply a trial coat first.
  • Treat softwood (risk of fungi) in exteriors with an appropriate impregnation primer before applying the first coat.
  • Stir contents well before and during use.
  • If possible, apply once on all sides before assembly.
  • Apply oil thinly and evenly - avoid layer formation and collect excess oil.

Apply Graying Oil by brush, roller or spray nozzle to raw, untreated wood. The wood is weatherproof after two to three applications with 12 hours of drying in between. To prolong abrasion resistance (especially decks) use a transparent finishing coat for the final treatment. Remove any oil paint, high-build coating systems and pore closing old coats by sanding, stripping or burning. Clean open-pore coats and consider roughening them. Then apply as outlined.
